I am what many call a "third culture kid". Born in Singapore to an American father and a Shanghainese mother, having attended Montessori and international schools my whole life, and having been actively involved in my community for many years, I have a unique perspective on the world around me, from many cultural points of view.
I am a lover of literature, music, art, cooking, creating, and travel. My respect for my cultural heritage and nature motivate me to always want to learn more about the world around me. I excel in several sports, having been on the school swim team for many years, focused extracurricular activities like rock climbing and skateboarding, and played school tennis for several years. In my free time, I enjoy painting with water color, using oil pastels, exploring and playing music, writing, and I LOVE TO READ!
From leadership in Model United Nations and Debate Club to expressing my passion for art through painting and drama, there are many things in my life I am proud to share.
I have been travelling internationally since I was 4 months old. From Cambodia to China, the United States to New Zealand, Italy to Indonesia, I am grateful to have seen so many beautiful things in my young life. This inspired me to want to learn more about the cultures and traditions of the people I have met, thus I have a passion for language. I have studied and am very comfortable with communication in Mandarin Chinese and Spanish, reading, writing, and speaking.
I have always been active in the performing arts, from ballet to drama. I have volunteered for multiple plays and productions, and soon realized that I have a passion for acting. I have studied and attained the Trinity College London (TCL) Solo Acting Drama Certification, Grade 3, and continue to actively study through TCL and Centre Stage Drama School.
I am passionate about music. I love jazz, indie, electronic, and listen to all types of alternative music from all over the world. I have studied and attained the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music Grade 2 certificate for Piano Performance, continue my studies, and have seen some amazing live music in my life... I can't wait to see, hear and learn more!
Human rights, politics, environmental policy, economics, gender equality, and cultural studies have always been passions of mine. These drove me to pursue active participation in UWC Debate Club, where I took positions on human rights and gender equality, working many sides of the issues in debate. This then led to my acceptance into Model United Nations (MUN) where I moved up the ranks to ultimately represent the Human Rights Committee as the ambassador from France, and the Economic, Environmental, and Social Committee as ambassador from Switzerland, both in the top 5 of committee representations in the ASEAN MUN school network.
I am proud to contribute to the community I live in. I was an active volunteer in F3 for Migrant Workers, distributing fresh food once a week to these workers who are the backbone of Singapore. I volunteered with Willing Hearts, a secular, non-affiliated charity wholly run by volunteers, apart from a handful of staff. It operates a soup kitchen that prepares, cooks and distributes about 7,000 daily meals to over 70 locations across Singapore, 365 days a year. I also participated as a volunteer with the National Environment Agency in the annual Children's Day East Coast Beach Clean Up.
I love to find new ideas and new ways of expression... I paint and read in my spare time, almost every day. I loved my Design Technology classes, and really embraced the Bauhaus design style, having created many pieces both practical and abstract. In art, I have opted to take the classes in school and outside of school, exploring many mediums, and created many pieces, several of which have been exhibited in the school and publicly. I even made my own skateboard design and produced a deck!
When I moved to Australia in 2023, I became a new student at St leonards College, and it was a difficult transition from schools, as I became the only new international student in term 4 in year 7. However, I quickly adapted to the change, and now I have many friends and connections in my school. One thing that particulary took me out of my comfort zone was doing the musical at the end of 2024. I made so many new connections with people I would never have spoken with, and those connections have brought me lifetime friendships.
In year 9, I participated something called CUE. CUE stands for community, urban and environment. During my first term, I was assigned in urban, where we learned about the city around us, and things we never knew about Melbourne... from navigating on my own in the city and public transport, to how Victoria Market produces clean and healthy fruits, to how homeless shelters help people in need, urban was a very new and exciting experience for me. After that, term 2 became community, which looking back, was definitely my favourite genre of CUE. I was assigned to take care of the early learning centres, and was fortunately assigned to Roseberry ELC, which is a early learning centre leocated in Bentleigh. I was assigned with the youngest ones, who tend to require the most care... and it fit me like a glove. During my time, I contributed by taking care of children ages 1 month to four years. I felt a tremendous sense of pride taking care of these children. Whether it was assisting in feeding, playing wirh them, putting them to sleep, and even just forming friendships, i really enjoyed my time in Roseberry ELC, and this experience cemented my resolve to pursue further study in paediatric medicine.
My most recent volunteering effort for school has been as a student guide for new and prospective students and parents. Whilst this wasn't compulsory, I felt the need to help, as I can relate to these experiences and feelings of being new. I think it helped me speak to adults in a more personal way, by answering their questions on the spot, whether it be about subject selections, to how long the swimming pool is, we had to be always be on our toes for interesting and unique questions, which i think helped me leverage my empathy... just 2 years ago i was in their shoes.
I have been very fortunate to build the foundation of my education through my attendance of United World College South East Asia (UWCSEA). This is the second of the 18 schools in the UWC Movement, and the largest UWC campus in the world. I was proud to be a part of the community of 5,600 students representing over 100 nationalities. I feel that I was able to contribute to the community which embodies everything the UWC Movement stands for: concern and compassion for others, the willingness to accept responsibility, and tenacity in pursuit of the truth. Here, you can view a farewell video my friends and my teacher shared with me when I left UWC... great people!
I am confident that my previous experiences in life and education provide me with a strong foundation by which to take on new challenges and explore the opportunity to take a part time role in my new community..
